With the right applications installed, a computer with mid-range hardware can replace any expensive recording equipment. If you need to record your voice for a podcast or record an audio stream, you should look at Advanced Audio Recorder. It offers a wide variety of tools, which can be used in numerous fields of expertise. The software can record any incoming or outgoing signal from your sound card and it places everything you need at your disposal, to edit and refine the obtained sounds.

Advanced Audio Recorder can be installed in less than a minute, even by novice users. The setup wizard will guide you through a standard procedure, during which you have to specify an installation path and choose what shortcuts to create. The software can be used on Windows 2000 or any later version, up to Windows 7.

You can start recording and review the results on a compact interface, which resembles a lightweight audio player. The main recording options are located on the upper half of the interface and the recordings themselves can be found in a list, on the lower half. A series of options, located beneath the file list, can be used to play, pause or stop the saved recordings, copy them to a specific folder or delete them.

The software comes with an advanced audio editor, which is loaded on a separate interface. The advanced editor includes more recording options and it allows you to split audio files, change their playback speed and apply numerous effects. Amplifying audio tracks, normalizing them, adding reverb effects or reducing noises are just a few examples.

When working on the compact interface, you can bring up a tabbed settings panel, which includes many useful options. You can set the program to save your recordings in MP3, OGG, WMA or WAV format, set up a schedule for automatic recordings, enable and configure an automatic gain control feature and more. Furthermore, Advanced Audio Recorder allows you to configure a voice active system, which can detect silent moments. Depending on your settings, the program will consider a sound segment silent, if its intensity is below a certain value for a certain amount of time.

Pros

You can record your voice or any sound on your computer. The recordings can be saved in various audio formats and you may copy the files or edit them. The software comes with a flexible audio editor, which includes many useful options.

Cons

You may need some time to figure out how to record audio streams. With Advanced Audio Recorder, you can record and fine tune any sound that passes through your sound card.
